No rseerve auction. Old hopi pueblo pottery vase. Nice antique hopi pueblo pottery vessel or vase, dating to the 1930s 50s, or earlier and possibly attributable to a member of the napmeyo family.
This tall vessel is decorated, on the outside only, with a unique but traditional hopi figural bird or bird dancer designs, painted in black. hTis piece is unsigned, as is usual for early hopi ceramics. The vessel or vase measures 5.75 tall and has a diameter of about 4 at the widest. The painted designs consist of a stylized, geometric images of a bird, or possibly a bird kachina dancer and there are two of these painted figures, one on each side of the piece. The body of the pottery is a buff -tan color and has some areas that fired a reddish color, as you can see in the photos. Aside from the unique design, another unusual feature is where a correction to the head of one figure was made by the artist-potter during the making of the piece. This vase si quite beautiful and quite old and was probably made as a piece to be sold to tourists or visitors during the 1940s. Possibly attributable to an early member fo the nampeyo family, as can be seen by the fine workmanship and this particular decoration and execution of the painted design. This piece is in good condition, with the slight wear nad an aged patina as you can see in the photos.Size5.75 tall and has a diameter of about 4 at the widest.
